Brits may be able to work from home forever even when work from home order is dropped, suggests minister

BRITS may be able to work from home forever – even when the work from home advice is dropped, a minister suggested last night.

Small business minister Paul Scully said it would be up to “personal discretion” between businesses and workers for what they wanted to do when the advice is finally dropped.

The work from home order was expected to be ditched after June 21 when all rules may be relaxed – but it’s likely that some rules will stay in place for longer as Covid cases rise.

Boris Johnson is weighing up which Covid rules to keep and which to bin ahead of Monday, where he will announce his decision to the nation.

Masks on public transport, the work from order, social distancing and numbers on gatherings are all up for discussion – with ministers looking at the data daily to aid their decisions.

Mr Scully told CityAM last night there was “no clear answer” for whether Brits should flock back to offices or not, adding: “Whenever the work from home message ends, it will be down to what’s best for the business and the worker.”

In a somewhat muddled message he appeared to suggest ministers would not order firms to get back to struggling cities to help save their struggling economies, adding: “Even if it does fall away, I presume there will still be some people that choose to wear a mask and choose to socially distance.

“It will be down to the person.”

Ministers are open to delaying Freedom Day on June 21 to get a grip on rising cases and making sure as many people are jabbed as possible.
