UK records another 23,012 coronavirus cases as 174 more people die

Today’s figures bring the total number of deaths to 44,745 and cases to 854,010 since the pandemic began in March. Yesterday, 20,530 cases and 224 deaths were recorded while last Saturday there were 16,171 cases and 163 deaths. In Northern Ireland there were six more deaths and 923 new cases of the virus. A four week lockdown is currently half way through but leaders haven’t ruled out extending it beyond November 13. Police officer sent explicit messages to colleague posing as girl, 12

Bryn Majid has been jailed for 20-months (Picture: Cheshire Police) A police officer who sent explicit photos to what he thought was a 12-year-old girl has been jailed after it turned out to be a colleague working undercover. Bryn Majid, 59, began chatting with ‘Jess’ in February this year on messenger app Kik, where he used the name ‘Copper762’. The custody investigation officer gradually turned the conversations towards sex, saying he would ‘show her how to kiss’, explaining how to perform a sex act and telling her he would send ‘a Kik pic of what I’m eventually going to put in you’. Majid, from Cheshire, admitted attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child and three counts of downloading images at Liverpool Crown Court and was jailed for 20 months. The court heard Majid messaged the supposed schoolgirl to say she was ‘looking lovely’ and mentioned that he was ‘slightly older’ than her but would still like to meet one day – something he said would be ‘their little secret..
