CHELSEA’S derby against Tottenham has been postponed with Covid-19 derailing fixtures in the women’s top-flight.

The Friday evening encounter is the second WSL match to be axed this week with West Ham’s Sunday battle against Manchester United also off.

And the postponements mean the Hammers and Chelsea have missed two league games in a row following the call-off of a pre-Christmas clash between the sides.

The WSL champs say a number of tests for individuals within their team set-up had come back positive.

Those who have Covid are said to now be isolating in line with government guidelines.

The Blues also revealed an unspecified number of players were unavailable due to injuries, with the decision to postpone the clash agreed with Tottenham and the FA.

In a statement, the club, currently second in the WSL, said: “The health and safety of our players, support staff and fans remain paramount.

“A revised date for the match will be confirmed in due course. All existing tickets to remain valid. No further Chelsea FC teams have been affected.”

West Ham’s home clash with United is also set to be rescheduled following a “number of suspected Covid-19 cases” among the Irons’ squad and staff.

It comes as the FA revealed 40 playing personnel and staff across the WSL and the Women’s Championship tested positive for coronavirus in the week leading up to Monday, January 3.

A statement read: “The FA is continuing to work with clubs to help mitigate the risks of Covid-19 within their squads and ensure that players, coaches and staff are kept safe.

“To ensure transparency, the FA will recommence the releasing of results each week across both the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship.

“At no point will specific details relating to any club, player or staff member be communicated by the FA.”

The postponements of Chelsea’s and West Ham’s games mean there are currently four WSL clashes set to ahead with the first being Aston Villa at home against Everton on Saturday.

On Sunday, Man City will travel to Brighton for a midday game with Reading facing Leicester later in the day.

League leaders Arsenal will travel to Birmingham City who are currently bottom of the table.
