West Yorkshire plunged into tier three lockdown from Monday

West Yorkshire is the latest region to enter tier three lockdown (Picture: Rex) West Yorkshire will be plunged into the toughest level of coronavirus restrictions from Monday. The region, which includes Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield, will enter a tier three lockdown after local leaders agreed a bailout deal with the Government. Leeds City Council’s chief executive Tom Riordan said a support package of £46.6 million had been negotiated for the region, on top the tier two funding already agreed. He said there would also be an additional £12.7 million for testing and tracing. Discussions about moving West Yorkshire into the toughest band of restrictions have been ongoing for several days. Bradford Council leader Susan Hinchcliffe said the Government was ‘unflinching in their resolve’ to place the region into tier three, but denied it was a ‘stand-off’. The rule changes mean that pubs, bars and restaurants must close completely, unless they serve a substantial meal with each d..

Girl, 8, struck and killed by stray bullet while doing her homework

Timiya Andrews, 8, was struck and killed by a stray bullet while doing her homework on her living room floor (Picture: CBS2) An eight year-old girl was struck and killed by a stray bullet while doing her homework on her living room floor. Timiya Andrews was taken off life support Wednesday, six days after being shot in the head at her home in Chicago. The youngster was doing her schoolwork when a gunman stood on the street outside her home let off 16 rounds, with one bullet flying through the siding of Timiya’s house and striking her. Police believe the killer bullet likely ricocheted off another object before hitting Timiya. Afterwards, Timiya was rushed to the University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital. She spent six days in intensive care, with attempts to save the youngster’s life sadly proving unsuccessful. Detectives are urgently working Timiya’s case, but do not have any leads or suspects. They do not believe the shooting was targeted, and are currently trying to wo..
