Her ex Daniel Boulton, 29, appeared at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court today charged with two counts of murder.

He is also charged with wounding with intent to resist after an off-duty police officer was stabbed before he was apprehended and faces a burglary charge.

Boulton also faces a charge of burglary after allegedly entering a bungalow to steal clothing, food and drink between May 30 and June 2.

He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address during the brief hearing.

He was remanded in custody until later on Friday when he will appear at the city’s crown court.

Boulton was arrested at a farm in nearby Hubbard’s Hill around 16 hours after the double killing when police put out an appeal.

Bethany’s devastated parents are being comforted by loved ones at their homes in Chapel St Leonards.

The mum-of-two had given birth to a baby boy last year, who is now being cared for by relatives.

Her aunt wept as she told The Sun Online: “It’s just so awful. I can’t believe what’s happened.

“I’ve just come back from holiday and need to be with my sister. We’re all absolutely devastated.

“We can’t understand what has happened and why – we can’t comprehend it. It’s unbearable.”

Family friend Susan Sharpe said Bethany’s mum Caroline is in “bits”.

The 61-year-old added: “I’ve known Bethany since she was knee high and watched her grow up into a teenage girl and young woman. She was absolutely devoted to her son DJ and her baby boy.

“She was only young when she had her first child but she got on with it, she took to motherhood and was a very good and proud mum.

“Everyone knows Bethany and there is a huge outpouring of grief in the community.

“She was very quiet and kept herself to herself  but she was always coming to visit her gran next door with DJ. He was a lovely little lad, a cheeky chappy type.”

Detective Chief Superintendent Andy Cox, Head of Crime at Lincolnshire Police, said: “This has been one of the most tragic and upsetting investigations that we have ever dealt with.

“Our thoughts continue to be with the families of Bethany and Darren as they grieve these unimaginable losses.

“Throughout the investigation we have received brilliant support. The people of Louth have shown how strong their community is, and I’d like to pay tribute to the help we’ve had from them.

“Many in the media, too, have been a fantastic support to us in sharing our messages and appeals.”
