Demi Lovato’s former fiancé has released his new ballad, allegedly inspired by his relationship with the singer.

Less than a month after Demi called off the pair’s engagement, actor Max Ehrich can be heard singing about being afraid to fall in love with his whole heart in the track.

The song, titled Afraid, was released on all streaming platforms today and lyrics include: ‘I’m afraid to give up my heart / I’m afraid to lose against love / I’m afraid, afraid to be broken apart / So I play, I play safe / Holding my guard.’

Max recorded the heartbreak tune in a makeshift studio in the house he shared with Demi, 28, during quarantine.

According to TMZ, the song is inspired by the first night the duo met as well as fans hear the actor’s ‘inner dialogue’ during the fiery meeting.

The Young and the Restless alum’s single came after Demi, 28, leaked her own song Still Have Me after the two split.

Demi – who got engaged to Max in July – posted a version of the song, which is not yet on streaming services, on Twitter.

She captioned it: ‘Music is always there for me…’

The emotional tune starts with Demi singing: ‘I’m a mess and I’m still broken, but I’m finding my way back.

‘It feels like someone’s stolen all the light I ever had,’ she continues in the song, before belting out in the chorus: ‘I don’t have much but at least I still have me.’

Demi and Max split after seven months together, and just two months after the actor proposed.

The American Princess star even took to his Instagram Stories to claim he found out about his relationship status by reading tabloids.
