Eamonn Holmes has blasted a claim that he comes across as ‘uncomfortable’ and ‘boring’ on This Morning when he hosts with Ruth Langsford, hitting back with a sardonic remark.

From 2006 up until January this year, Eamonn, 61, and his wife Ruth, 61, hosted the Friday editions of ITV programme This Morning.

The couple now only present the show during the school holidays, with their old slot recently being taken over by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

Eamonn found himself caught up in a bickering Twitter thread, which began when an account on the social media platform called for a ‘petition to get Eamonn and Ruth back in that studio #ThisMorning’.

Author Primula Bond expressed her disdain over the idea, replying: ‘God no,’ before stating in a further tweet: ‘I am uncomfortable with their bickering and he always looks so bored during fashion and other “lighter” segments.’

Eamonn wasn’t having the criticism, chiming in to respond: ‘Uncomfortable and boring …. u sure that wasn’t one of your book reviews? We might have a lot in common.’

‘Ouch,’ Primula replied, adding a seemingly genuine apology that read: ‘Touché indeed. That will teach me for being mean. Sorry @EamonnHolmes.’

Last month during an appearance on Loose Women, Eamonn opened up about his battle with chronic pain, revealing that he was using crutches while on the show.

‘I actually have to come on here with a crutch, that’s the way I am at the moment,’ he said.

‘I’ve got steroid injections and everything’s okay, and hopefully I’ll be on the mend.

‘Chronic pain, no matter what causes it – it doesn’t discriminate between whether you’re young or old, man or woman or whatever.’

Eamonn recently sparked concern when he disclosed that in early April, he was being treated in hospital for his chronic pain.

Sharing a selfie of himself wearing a mask, he wrote in a social media post: ‘At hospital… pain like I’ve never experienced in my life. Need to find out what’s causing this. Wish me well.’

He later shared on This Morning that after injuring his back, it developed into chronic pain when he ‘didn’t really do anything’ about it.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
