EXO star Chen has announced he will begin his mandatory military enlistment this month, six months after welcoming a baby girl with his partner.

South Korean media has published a handwritten letter from the singer which he shared with fans on EXO’s fan community Lysn on Friday.

It follows the release of his digital single Hello which some fans, called EXO-L, suspected might have been a last hurrah before he enlists.

The letter reads: ‘Hello, this is Chen. Are you all doing well and staying healthy these days, when the daily temperature swings are especially severe?

‘The summer heat has passed, and in the blink of an eye, it’s already autumn. The reason I’m writing to all of you today is to inform you that I’ll be enlisting in the military on October 26 and to at least say goodbye to you through this letter.

‘During my time in service, I will do my utmost to fulfill my duties in good physical and mental health, so that I can show you growth and improvement when I return and greet you again. In that time, I hope that all of you will also stay as beautiful and healthy as you are now!! I’m always grateful to you, and I love you.’

His label SM Entertainment added in a statement: ‘It’s true that Chen will enlist on October 26. The location and time of his enlistment will be kept private.’

Chen, 27, is the fourth member of the South Korean boy group to enlist after Xiumin, D.O. and Suho.

The Dear My Dear singer, real name Kim Jong-dae, confirmed in early 2020 that he was getting married and his partner was pregnant with their first child. At the time he apologised to EXO-L who might have been ‘hurt’ about the news.

He participated in EXO’s comeback Obsession last year alongside Suho, Kai, Sehun, Chanyeol and Baekhyun. Another member, Lay, is currently promoting solo in China.

545 immigrant children seized at the border cannot find their missing parents

There are now 545 children who cannot find their families after separated in ICE interment camps at the US Southern border (Photo: AP) A total of 545 immigrant children who were seized at the US Southern border with Mexico are now no longer able to find their parents, lawyers say. The children were separated from their families between 2017 to 2018, and now the US federal government cannot reunite the children with their mothers and fathers, court documents said. About 60 of the children were 5-years-old or younger when they were separated, the documents said. Under the Trump administration’s order in June 2018, children were taken from their parents at the door and put in ‘cages’ under what was called a ‘zero tolerance policy.’ Many human rights organizations began investigating the practice, leading to a subsequent federal court order to reunify those families.
