It seems the latest instalment of the Indiana Jones franchise is off to a roaring start, with flames lighting up the sky at a historic castle in Northumberland overnight.

Images captured a blaze on the epic set, right as Harrison Ford was seen donning the archeologist’s famous get-up for the first time in over a decade.

Thursday’s night shoot of the new movie put on a show with a dramatic fire staged at Bamburgh Castle, while a Second World War-era motorbike was visible in a hint at the stunts to come.

Harrison is reprising the role of the world’s most daring archaeologist at the age of 78 but it was not clear if Dr Jones was the man on the bike.

However, the dramatic scenes have led to speculation that the fire and the bike were linked to yet another death-defying escape from the Nazis, in true Indy fashion.

Bamburgh Castle has been closed to the public for several days and Second World War vehicles have been spotted being delivered to the site in the run up to filming, according to Press Association.

Local residents were also warned that filming would be taking place at night and there might be loud noises, as the crew staged a fire.

PA news agency photographer Owen Humphreys, who was on hand to snap the scenes, said: ‘They started to test the set around 9pm and filming went on to about 1am.

‘They staged a fire and we could see a man on a motorbike going up to the castle – it could be a prison break scene, after all, this is Indiana Jones.

‘It looked spectacular in the night sky with the backdrop of the famous castle.’

During downtime from filming, Harrison has been spotted cycling along the Northumberland coast and on Tyneside, engaging with locals at a pub earlier this week after production began in Grosmont in North Yorkshire.

Scenes have also been shot on location at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, while the film will also be shot at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

Harrison is reprising his role for a fifth time, with the plot of the new instalment being kept massively under wraps.

However, more set photos have been emerging, giving us hints about what to expect, with vehicles from the World War II era spotted, including vintage cars and a train with a swastika and Nazi emblem on it.

Harrison’s latest outing as the adventurer comes 40 years after he first donned the hat and whip in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark.

As well as Harrison, the cast will also include Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Avengers star Thomas Kretschmann, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook and Shaunette Renée Wilson.

Director James Mangold, who is known for 2017’s Logan and Ford v Ferrari will take over from Steven Spielberg to helm the movie.

However, Steven will remain heavily involved in the film as a producer.

The new movie is expected to be the last in the Indiana Jones franchise.

Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled for release on July 29, 2022.
