Harry Potter stars including Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Felton, and Rupert Grint have reunited for an epic livestream marking 19 years since the release of the first film.

It’s been almost two decades since Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone made it to the big screen, and the cast decided to celebrate in style.

Daniel (Harry), Tom (Draco Malfoy), and Rupert (Ron Weasley) joined forces with co-stars including James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), and Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley) to bring some magic to 2020.

Also making an appearance was Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy), Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) and Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas).

Dropping a big hint about the celebrations that are set to happen next year, Daniel said: ‘My first thoughts are that this is but a mere preview of the nostalgia we’ll be immersed in next year when it hits 20 years since the first film was released.

‘I feel like we’ll be doing a lot of reminiscing probably in various forms next year.’

The 31-year-old added: ‘It feels insane that that much time has gone by […] It seems impossible that all that time has passed,’ describing the time filming as his ‘formative years’.

Rupert, meanwhile, revealed that he spent his entire time filming the franchise laughing – even when at the most inappropriate moments.

‘I remember on Potter it would always be the most inappropriate scenes, like Dumbledore’s funeral was a particularly bad one,’ he recalled. ‘For some reason I found that absolutely hilarious. And yeah, once you start laughing, it’s very hard to stop.’

‘I had a particularly bad reputation, they used to call me Go Again Grint because I could never do anything without doing it like 20 times,’ the 32-year-old continued.

He went on to say that he and Daniel had to film the train carriage scene in the first film separately, because they simply couldn’t look each other in the eye.

Fans were thrilled to see the old friends back together again, albeit virtually, with one writing on Twitter: ‘Y’all I actually started crying when I saw Rupert and Daniel.’

‘I swear I’m crying. These people were my whole childhood. #HarryPotter means everything to me,’ another added.

‘You just know i was SOBBING,’ one more said and, honestly, same.

After Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was released in 2001, the series became one of the biggest franchises in the world, ending with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 2011.

Earlier this year, the first film finally hit $1 billion (£757 million) at the box office, thanks to a re-release in China.

It reportedly amassed a whopping $13.6million (£10m), from 16,000 screens, helping to push it into the billion-dollar range.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, meanwhile, grossed more than $1.34billion (£1.014b).
