Ian Wright has picked out Bukayo Saka, Dani Ceballos and Gabriel Magalhaes for praise after Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City but believes Kyle Walker was the best player on the pitch at the Etihad.
City got back to winning ways in the Premier League after their 1-1 draw at Leeds two weekends ago as Raheem Sterling’s 23rd-minute strike sealed all three points for the hosts.
Ederson denied the Gunners with three outstanding saves in the opening 45 minutes and Mikel Arteta said he was ‘upset’ with the result as he felt his side deserved more from the game.
However, discussing the clash on Match of the Day, Arsenal legend Wright claimed there were plenty of reasons to be cheerful for this former club.
‘Kyle Walker was very good,’ the ex-Arsenal and England striker said.
‘He had to cover that channel and he was impressive. He stopped a lot of the balls going into [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang.
‘A couple of Arsenal players played well, I thought Saka, Ceballos and Gabriel were good but in the main, Walker was just everywhere.
‘He was fantastic. He gets a lot of stick but he was brilliant.’
In his post-match press conference, Pep Guardiola admitted City are yet to find their best form this season but was pleased to emerge as victors against an ‘impressive opponent’ in Arsenal.
‘It was difficult but we have won 1-0 and Ederson again was incredibly active like he was against Leeds,’ the City head coach said.
‘We are still a little bit away from our best performance that we are wishing but for many reasons it is not possible.
‘The victory helped us a lot, we defended really well deep and up front and it’s a good three points against an impressive opponent.’
