A lorry driver has been fined £500 after he was caught playing solitaire on a laptop next to his steering wheel.

The Polish driver, 38, was spotted playing the game by a police officer on a motorbike as he approached the Dartford Crossing towards Essex.

He was pulled over yesterday morning in his left-hand drive vehicle and was also found to have broken rules on driving hours.

The unnamed motorist was reported for driving offences, including not being in proper control of a motor vehicle.

A spokesperson from Kent Police said: ‘Officers from the Kent Police Roads Policing Unit stopped a lorry driver on the M25 approach to the Dartford River Crossing at 10.55am on Thursday, October 15 after he was seen to be using a laptop while driving.

‘The 38-year-old man from Poland was issued with graduated fixed penalty notices totalling £500 for driving hours offences and not being in proper control of a motor vehicle.’
