Christmas was an incredibly expensive month for almost all of us, from the shopping trollies full of extra food to the never-ending Christmas presents.

And some of the worst hit by Christmas overspending are parents, whose children seem to want every new toy on the market.

So it’s no surprise that parents jump at the chance to save a little cash when they get it.

And one hack, that claimed to save a mum over £780 per year, had parents scrambling to find out the secret.

Manchester Evening News shared a few tips on its page back in January 2020, and after the busy Christmas period, many are returning to them.

One mum wrote in the Manchester Family group that she had found a way to save money that suited her busy and hectic lifestyle.

She said well-known tricks like the penny challenge didn’t work for her, as she never had enough cash in her wallet.

So her idea is a little more random, but apparently, it works.

She posted on the group: “So I’ve seen lots of ideas for saving money but none of them will really work for me – I never had change in my purse to do the penny challenge, for example.

“That’s why I’m giving this a go. Every pay day – or at the end of the month – you put in one of these amounts and then cross it off the list.

Rather than having to save a hefty amount that burns a hole in your wallet, this trick means you can just put in whichever suits you best that month, with the amounts ranging from £10 to £180.

Dozens of parents commented saying they would give it a go in 2021.
