Mum’s parcel taken away by binmen after delivery driver dumped it on rubbish

A delivery driver dumped a customer’s parcel in their recycling bin before it was taken away by unsuspecting rubbish collectors.

The mum was away from home on a camping trip when the package, containing a £30 gift for her son, was dropped off on Tuesday.

Delivery company Hermes sent her a picture of the parcel to confirm it had arrived and had been put in a ‘safe place’.

But the woman, who has asked to remain anonymous, says she had limited phone reception and did not see the message in time.

She was stunned to discover the package had been taken away by binmen and has criticised the delivery company’s behaviour as ‘disrespectful’, TeesideLive reports.

The customer, from Redcar, North Yorkshire, said: ‘I realised I had got an email saying the parcel was delivered the previous day.

The mum said the parcel contained a £30 gift for her son

‘It said “your parcel has been left in a safe place” and they left a photo of my full recycling bin.

‘The lid was open and it was just laid on top of all the bottles. The binmen took it.

‘It was the fact the bin was out on the street, it wasn’t even on my drive. The bin is out on the street for a reason.

‘The bin doesn’t have the number of my house on, it may not even have been my bin! Anybody could have taken it. It’s just disrespectful. It doesn’t make sense.’

The woman also said Hermes did not post a delivery note through her door.

Now she says she can’t get through to the company to resolve the situation.

She added: ‘I can’t get a hold of anybody at Hermes for love nor money.

‘It’s like an automated robot. It says it’s pleased to confirm it’s been delivered. I’m hoping I can get the parcel back or another one sent.

‘For them to say it’s been left in a safe place and securely delivered then there’s no customer service number to ring and speak to a person, it’s just one of them robots. You have to laugh, it’s just crackers.’

Hermes has been contacted for a comment.
