The official trailer for new Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers has been released.

The promo features Nicole Kidman, 50, who stars in the eight episode drama as Masha, a quirky wellness retreat director.

The show, directed by Jonathan Levine and based on Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty’s 2018 bestselling novel of the same name, is due for release on August 18.

The series is busting with stars including Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, Regina Hall, Michael Shannon, Bobby Cannavale, Asher Keddie, Samara Weaving, Melvin Gregg, Manny Jacinto, Grace Van Patten and Tiffany Boone who play a group of lost people brought together to find themselves at Tranquillum House.

In the trailer, Nicole can be heard saying as the somewhat creepy Masha: ‘You want to get well? You want to heal?

‘Surrender yourself to me.’

The show’s synopsis states: ‘These nine “perfect” strangers have no idea what is about to hit them.’

The trailer shows her unconventional methods and the effects, which are obviously not what the ‘nine perfect strangers’ anticipated, including lying in open graves and walking to the edge of a cliff.

‘In 10 days you will be transformed. We are on the precipice of something great.’

In an interview with The Guardian, Australian author Liane explained what inspired her to write the novel.

‘We live in paradise. Most of us live such comfortable middle-class lives, and so, is it the desire for suffering? And this desire we all have for transformation,’ she said.

‘I can never see an article that says, “Just change this one thing about your life and you’ll be transformed forever” – even though you know when you click on it, it won’t work, I find it irresistible.’
