Strictly Come Dancing contestant Nicola Adams has promised to ‘break boundaries’ with dance partner Katya Jones in the 2020 series.

The duo are about to make show history as they take to the dancefloor in the first same-sex pairing.

In the launch show which aired on Saturday, the annual Strictly pairing ritual took place and we got to see a stunning performance by MNEK.

Olympic boxer Nicola, who only agreed to do the series if she was partnered with a woman, told hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman that she ‘can’t wait to set fire to the dance floor’.

Taking to Instagram the day after, Nicola shared a series of snaps with Katya as she teased fans with what they can expect when they hit the dancefloor.

‘Thank you, everyone, this is going to be an exciting adventure for me and Katya Jones,’ she penned.

‘Breaking boundaries, there are no limitations on what we can do on the dance floor. Stay tuned everyone.’

Speaking about making show history and being partnered with Katya, Nicola told Tess and Claudia: ‘I want people to see my personality and my fun side.

‘I want to set fire to the dance floor and bust some moves.’

‘It’s never been done before on Strictly, so we are free to do what we want,’ Katya added.

‘There are no set rules, I am going to play around with it and I can’t wait.’

The hosts also revealed that Clara Amfo was paired with pro Aljaž Skorjanec, Ranvir Singh with Giovanni Pernice and Caroline Quentin with Johannes Radebe.

HRVY is partnered with Janette Manrara, while Jason Bell is paired with Luba Mushtuk and Jamie Laing with Karen Hauer.

Jacqui Smith is paired with Anton Du Beke, EastEnders star Maisie Smith with Gorka Marquez and JJ Chalmers has been partnered with Amy Dowden.

Bill Bailey is with Oti Mabuse and finally, Max George is partnered with Dianne Buswell.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday at 7.25pm on BBC One.
