The Apprentice Best Bits was back on our screens tonight as the show revisited some of the candidates’ overseas trips – and there have definitely been some epic fails over the years.

This week’s episode looked back at 15 years of globetrotting attics and showed what it takes to do business abroad.

And it’s safe to say, that the candidates struggled with both language barriers and lack of local knowledge throughout.

In 2006, Lord Alan Sugar sent the budding entrepreneurs to France, where one group tried selling cheese to the French.

Looking back at that moment, Lord Sugar said: ‘This genius decided to sell cheese to the French.’

Karen Brady continued: ‘I mean, how daft is that?’

Claude Littner even branded it ‘absurd’ as he added: ‘The French are very proud of their food, and they really know their cheese.

‘So, to buy a lump of Cheddar cheese and to think you could pass that off as something of quality to the French, is quite frankly absurd.’

And as if that wasn’t enough, one obstacle some of the candidates faced when working abroad was, the language barrier.

Although, Claude was on hand as Lord Sugar’s secret weapon to catch them out as he speaks fluent French.

Some of the contestants had to result to miming to try and translate what they were trying to say to the locals.

One group even took Lord Sugar literally when they were in Malta… he asked for an octopus with a 40-inch hose.

However, they couldn’t have got it more wrong, as they brought back a dead octopus instead of the piece of diving equipment Lord Sugar asked for.

Awkward.

Despite the fails, viewers were loving the throwback episode, taking to Twitter one commented: ‘I loved this task! Selling English food in France. One of them ended up heating up sausages on an empty beans tin with a lighter.’

Another tweeted: ‘Yes the Cheese task! This one was brilliant from S3.’

While one added: ‘The Foreign tasks are always hilarious mainly coz they can’t speak the language.’

A new series of The Apprentice was unable to go ahead this year due to the pandemic, so the BBC has put together six episodes of highlights from over the years.

The Apprentice Best Bits returns on Thursday at 9pm on BBC One.
