The Bridge threw a major curveball in Maura and Luke’s direction tonight, as the pair were offered the chance to take £10,000 from the £100,000 prize fund.

The pair were sent on an overnight mission to collect more tools so the camp could increase the speed at building the bridge and once they arrived, they were alerted to a note which could change everything.

The message read: ‘Tonight you must make a decision. You can choose to take 3000 nails and a hammer back to camp to help or you can each take £5000 from the prize fund and just take a small sort.’

The contestants were completely split over the opportunity at hand, with Maura instantly revealing she would want to return with the tools than take the cash.

‘I know what I want to do and that’s keep the nails,’ she told Luke, who thought it was a no brainer to take the money.

‘What I’m thinking is we take it, not because we’re selfish, but because that [the nails] is pointless and this [the cash] is guaranteed,’ he explained.

Speaking to the camera, he revealed: ‘I’ve never had that sort of money. I’ve never had a silver spoon. I’ve been through a lot growing up and I feel like sometimes when you get a chance like this you need to take it.’

The dilemma became all too much for Maura though, who cried as she confronted the decision.

‘I’m 20 years old. I’m not supposed to have any money,’ she sobbed. ‘I’m supposed to not have money at this age. The other people, they all have things that they want and I’d rather just hand it over right now and give it to them.’

Maura and Luke have the night to make up their minds on what they’re going to do, and judging by the preview for next week’s episode, they’re going to leave their decision to the wire.

Will Maura be talked into pocketing the dough?

The Bridge continues on Sunday at 9pm on Channel 4.
