Top stars slam Triple H for claiming ‘best female performers in the world are in WWE and if they’re not, they want to be’

Triple H has claimed the ‘best female performers in the world’ are either already in WWE or want to make it there one day.

The NXT boss – whose real name is Paul Levesque – was asked about NWA’s announcement that Mickie James is producing an all-women’s pay-per-view later this year, and her call for the top talent across the globe to get involved.

Speaking in the pre-NXT TakeOver: In Your House media call, he told Inside The Ropes: ‘If you want to wrestle the best women in the world, come to WWE, that’s where they are.

‘If you want to go elsewhere and say that they are – and you can. But it is what it is. While I’m all for [another all-women’s show] – I was one of the biggest drivers for it. Will we do another all-women’s event down the line? Possibly!

‘But it’s not the must-have in the moment. I think we do an amazing job of displaying our female athletes… I think we do a pretty good job.

‘In my opinion – the best female performers in the world are in WWE and if they’re not, they want to be.’

WWE held its Evolution show – headlined by Ronda Rousey and Nikki Bella for the Raw Women’s Championship – in 2018, and The Game referenced that while shrugging off Mickie’s suggestion that companies should let talent appear on her event regardless of contractual status.

He said: ‘Haven’t we already done one? It’s a funny thing to me. Equality is equality. Equality is not, “I want my own show”. Equality is not, “we have to have our own programme”.

‘If I told you that I was making an all-men’s programme and I didn’t want women on it, I’d be criticised. And I’m not saying that’s right or wrong.

‘I just think it’s funny when people go, “I want the best in the world regardless of contractual status”. Wow, I’m sorry – from a business person’s standpoint, then why do we have contractual status? Right? It doesn’t make any sense to me.’

Many fans and performers in other companies have reacted to his comments.

NWA and AEW star Thunder Rosa tweeted: ‘The Best Female Wrestlers are not located in one company not even in one country. They are spread over many companies and many countries! Talented women across the Globe! (sic)’

IMPACT Wrestling’s Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo agreed, as she shared the post and added: ‘THIS. THIS. THIS’.

And current AEW Women’s titleholder Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. – who faced Rosa in a bloody Lights Out Match back in March – shared a photo from that night, seemingly referencing the comments.

Mickie – who was released by WWE in April – is yet to offer a proper rebuttal, but she shared all-women’s promotion SHIMMER’s response.

They insisted the arguments were ‘silly’, pointing to Tor Berg’s LPWA as the ‘first all women PPV in 1992’, while crediting WWE, IMPACT Wrestling, NWA, independent promotions and those in Japan.

They added: ‘All that matters is that women’s wrestling is flourishing right now, compared to 15 years ago, and it’s a result of the entire industry working hard to make the necessary changes to make it all happen. Let’s celebrate that and support everybody!’

*NXT TakeOver: In Your House takes place on Sunday (June 13) at midnight. Tune in via the WWE Network.
