Elmbridge saw 183 new coronavirus cases recorded in the seven days up to October 10.

In regards to the move to tier two, Tim Oliver, Leader of Surrey County Council, said: ‘We know that the last 6 months has been incredibly challenging for residents but we really must all come together now to do what we can to overcome this virus.

‘Sadly, in keeping with the picture we are seeing nationally, cases in the county are still increasing across the board.

‘The news today that rates have continued to rise sharply in Elmbridge means there is absolutely no room for complacency and residents in this area will now see some measures introduced to help curb the spread.’

The towns in Elmbridge affected by the new rules include Cobham, Esher, Weybridge, Claygate, Molesey, Oxshott, and Walton-on-Thames.

Areas tend to be moved to tier two when they cross 100 infections per 100,000 people.

Elmbirdge currently has 133.8 per 100,000 cases.

However, some areas in Surrey should prepare for tier two movement in the new few weeks, as their numbers lurk dangerously close to the cut off.

Mole Valley has 97.4 cases per 100,000, Surrey Heath has 92.9, and Waverly has 92.6.
