Arsenal defender David Luiz was absent from Mikel Arteta’s 18-man squad to face Leeds United at Elland Road.

The Brazilian was not named in the matchday squad that travelled to Yorkshire on Saturday night.

Luiz has been a consistent starter for the Gunners this term and he was one of the few players in Arteta’s squad not to be involved in the international break with his country, meaning he had been earmarked to start.

The former Chelsea man was reportedly sent home from training last week after a fight with team-mate Dani Ceballos during a session.

Arteta brushed off the reports in a press conference on Friday and Ceballos was named in the starting XI to take on Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

However, Luiz’s absence was put down to the fact that his partner had given birth early on Sunday morning and he was given permission to stay at home to be with his new-born daughter.

Arteta has dropped Alexandre Lacazette following a poor spell of form for the Frenchman.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appears to be playing through the middle and will be flanked by Willian and Nicolas Pepe at Elland Road.

Rob Holding partners Gabriel in the heart of the defence in Luiz’s absence.
